A world leader in applying biophotonics to medical procedures, Dr. Yang is a Surgeon-Scientist at the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at Western University and cross-appointed in Interventional Neuroradiology, Orthopedic Spine surgery, and Medical Biophysics. He has a Master’s degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, MD-PhD (Medical Biophysics) program at the University of Toronto in 2006. Dr. Yang completed the Neurosurgery residency program at the University of Toronto with in-folded Interventional Neuroradiology fellowship in 2012, and joined University of Toronto neurosurgery faculty, where he was promoted to full professor in 2021. Dr. Yang completed a combined complex spine fellowship at University of Calgary in 2021.
Research
In conjunction with his neurosurgical, spine, and interventional neuroradiology practices, Dr. Yang directs Biophotonics and Bioengineering Lab (BBL) at University Hospital, Western Research Park, and Toronto Metropolitan University. Dr. Yang has trained more than 38 master and PhD students, 15 post-doctoral fellows, and published over 300 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers with h-index > 54.
