Climate
In early October, Cairo experiences warm and dry weather, with daytime highs typically ranging from 31°C to 32°C (88°F to 90°F), while nighttime lows are around 17°C to 20°C (63°F to 68°F). This results in warm days and comfortably cool evenings. Expect approximately 10 hours of sunshine per day, with the sky being mostly clear or partly cloudy. Humidity levels are moderate, averaging around 53%, which contributes to a comfortable atmosphere. Light, breathable clothing is recommended for daytime, along with a light jacket or sweater for the cooler evenings. Sunscreen and sunglasses are essential due to the abundant sunshine.

Time Zone
During October 7-11, 2026, Cairo will observe Eastern European Summer Time (EEST), which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3).

Clothing
The dress code for ISPN 2026 is business casual for all occasions unless stated otherwise.

Currency
The Egyptian pound (EGP) is the official currency of Egypt, with denominations ranging from E£1 to E£200 in banknotes and coins of 1 pound and smaller values. To exchange money in Cairo, you can use ATMs, which are widely available, or visit currency exchange offices in popular areas like Downtown and Zamalek. However, it's recommended to avoid exchanging money at airports, as rates may be less favorable.

For card payments, Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at hotels, malls, and restaurants, but American Express may not be as common. Due to recent restrictions, foreign currency transactions via credit cards may be limited, so it's wise to carry some cash for smaller purchases and tips. Always check exchange rates to ensure you're getting the best deal and inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid issues with card usage.

Tipping

In Egypt, tipping is customary in various service settings. Restaurants typically expect a 10-15% tip. For hotel staff—housekeeping, bellhops, and doormen—20-30 Egyptian pounds per service is appropriate. Tour guides usually receive 100-200 Egyptian pounds per day, depending on the tour's length and quality. For taxi drivers, rounding up the fare is sufficient, with an extra 5-10 pounds for exceptional service.

Tipping is usually done in cash, but for excellent service at hotels or restaurants, you may add a tip to your credit card payment. It's best to hand the tip directly to the person rather than leaving it on a table or in a room as a sign of respect.

Tipping is also expected in other situations, such as visiting a mosque or public restroom, where a tip of 10 Egyptian pounds is customary.

Electricity

In Cairo, the standard electricity supply operates at 220 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. The power sockets used are type C and type F. It's advisable to bring a universal travel adapter that supports multiple plug types and includes surge protection. This ensures compatibility with Egyptian outlets and safeguards your devices against power surges.
